THE PREDICTION

Bath are able to field a team in time for Boxing Day’s clash with London Irish after they were forced to call off their second Champions Cup match with La Rochelle following their first opponents’, Scarlets, covid-19 outbreak. They will be eager to do so after a shaky start to the new Premiership season saw them winless until round three, when they beat Worcester Warriors by 16 points on the road. They lost a close match to an inspired Scarlets after that, whose outbreak did nothing to affect their performance, but will be confident of a result here. London Irish were able to enjoy an excellent start to their own European campaign in the Challenge Cup with two wins over French Top 14 sides Pau and Agen but the gap in quality should tell here. Irish should still be able to contribute well to a scoreline that goes over 40 points in favour of hosts Bath.
