WARRINGTON WOLVES

  • Warrington Wolves surrendered meekly as they crashed out of last season’s play-offs in embarrassing fashion, failing to score a single point in a humiliating 0-19 loss to Hull KR but they will have a new man at the helm this year.
  • Daryl Powell has made the move from Castleford Tigers and made numerous signings in an effort to shape the squad in his own way with Peter Mata’utia and Oliver Holmes also following Powell in making the move from the Jungle.

21-man squad: 1 Stefan Ratchford, 2 Josh Charnley, 3 Peter Mata’utia, 5 Matty Ashton, 6 Gareth Widdop, 7 George Williams, 8 Joe Philbin, 9 Daryl Clark, 10 Mike Cooper, 11 Ben Currie, 12 Oliver Holmes, 14 Jason Clark, 15 Joe Bullock, 16 Danny Walker, 17 Matt Davis, 19 Robbie Mulhern, 22 Josh Thewlis, 23 Connor Wrench, 24 Ellis Longstaff, 25 Ellis Robson, 26 Rob Butler

THE PREDICTION

Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves will both have big ambitions this season and while the first game of the year will not tell us a great deal about the pair, they will both be desperate to get off the mark. The Wolves are something of an unknown quantity this year with head coach Daryl Powell hoping to put his stamp on the playing style of his new side but it may take time for it to come to fruition. With the Rhinos lining up with a new halfback pairing, they too may adjust how they attack this year but it should be for the better and with both teams looking to impress early on, this should be an entertaining contest that goes over the total points line.
