THE TEAM NEWS

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

  • Newcastle Knights made it two wins from their last three games as they got the better of New Zealand Warriors in their latest contest but this will be a real test as they take on league leaders Penrith Panthers.
  • The Knights will need to show greater consistency if they are to compete for a spot in the top eight this season and while they are big underdogs for this game, they are boosted by the return of Kurt Mann who will slot on the bench.

Starting 13: Ponga, Lee, Gagai, Tuala, Young, Milford, Clifford, Klemmer, Randall, J. Saifiti, Frizell, Fitzgibbon, Barnett – Interchanges: Mann, Sasagi, Thompson, Croker – Reserves: Saulo, Momoisea, Hoy, Johns, Crossland

Unavailable: Jayden Brailey, Chris Vea’ila, Bradman Best, Daniel Saifiti

PENRITH PANTHERS

  • Penrith Panthers proved to be too good for Canterbury Bulldogs in their clash last week, even though the defending premiers were missing a clutch of players owing to State of Origin call-ups.
  • That contingent will all return here and are likely to back-up as they aim to put their disappointing showing for New South Wales behind them, although they will have to cope without key man Isaah Yeo who has been ruled out following Wednesday’s game.

Starting 13: Edwards, May, Tago, S. Crichton, To’o, Luai, Cleary, Leota, Koroisau, Fisher-Harris, Kikau, Martin, Yeo – Interchanges: Kenny, Sorensen, Eisenhuth, Salmon – Reserves: Jennings, Smith, O’Sullivan, Hopgood, Leniu, Staines, Falls

Unavailable: Isaah Yeo

THE PREDICTION

Newcastle Knights will be eager to lay down a marker for the rest of the campaign as they take on current leaders and premiers Penrith Panthers. The Knights have won two of their last three but this is a much sterner test and they will have to be at their very best to stick with the Panthers. The visitors have won four straight and with their Origin contingent back on deck for this contest, Penrith should be able to win this one relatively comfortably by a margin of at least eight points.
