THE TEAM NEWS

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

  • Newcastle Knights made it two games without a loss as they played out a draw with Manly Sea Eagles last week with some superb efforts on show.
  • Dom Young was recalled to the side and stole the show with four tries so he unsurprisingly retains his spot on the wing but the Knights have been forced into a change in the halves with Phoenix Crossland replacing Tyson Gamble who is out with a head knock.

Starting 13: Miller, Young, Gagai, Best, Marzhew, Crossland, Hastings, D. Saifiti, Brailey, Thompson, Frizell, Fitzgibbon, Johns – Interchanges: Mann, Hetherington, Croker, Jones – Reserves: Tuala, Lucas, Cant, Hunt, Rivett

Unavailable: Adam Elliott (Injured), Jacob Saifiti (Suspended), Kalyn Ponga (Injured), Adam Clune (Injured), Tyson Gamble (Injured)

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

  • New Zealand Warriors are the surprise package so far in 2023 and they cemented that title with a thrilling success against Cronulla Sharks last week.
  • The Warriors made it three straight wins and four wins from five as they fought back from 26-6 down to land the brilliant victory and they will boast a stronger side this week with Te Maire Martin and Tohu Harris back in the side.

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Kosi, Vailea, Pompey, Montoya, Martin, Johnson, Fonua-Blake, Egan, Afoa, Ford, Sironen, Harris – Interchanges: Walker, Curran, Tevaga, Ale – Reserves: Watene-Zelezniak, Tuaupiki, Lussick, Volkman, Sifakula

Unavailable: Luke Metcalf (Injured), Valingi Kepu (Injured), Mitchell Barnett (Injured), Brayden Wiliame (Injured), Marata Niukore (Suspended)

THE PREDICTION

Newcastle Knights were impressive on the road last week as they claimed an unlikely draw from their game with Manly Sea Eagles. It is now back-to-back games without a defeat for the Knights but they face a tall order to extend that run as they take on the brilliant New Zealand Warriors. The Kiwi side have lost just one game so far this season in what has been an excellent start to the campaign and with confidence high after their come-from-behind victory over Cronulla Sharks, the Warriors have to be fancied to claim another victory.
