THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE STORM

  • Melbourne Storm were blown away by Brisbane Broncos last week as Craig Bellamy’s side were nilled in their qualifying final and a much better performance will be needed if they are to prolong their season.
  • To make matters worse for the Storm, they lost Ryan Papenhuyzen to another serious injury while Xavier Coates and Young Tonumaipea also picked up knocks which will rule them out of this contest.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

  • Sydney Roosters produced another gutsy performance as they showed their character in abundance to edge a thrilling finals match against Cronulla Sharks.
  • The Roosters overcame plenty of in-play strife to claim the 12-13 success and make it six straight victories but they have lost outside backs Joey Manu, Billy Smith and Joseph Suaali’i in a triple blow.

THE PREDICTION

This could be a real war of attrition with Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters both coming into this with plenty of talent on the sidelines. The pair had mixed success last week as the Storm were nilled by Brisbane Broncos while Sydney Roosters overcame Cronulla Sharks to extend their season by another week. This one could go either way with little to split the teams and while the form of the Tricolours makes them appealing, it will be a tough ask for their makeshift three-quarter line to get the job done again. They will be competitive but the Storm should have the extra quality to prevail.
