THE TEAM NEWS

WESTS TIGERS

Starting 13: Laurie, Nofoaluma, J. Leilua, Mbye, Cini, Doueihi, Brooks, Tamou, Simpkin, Twal, Garner, L. Leilua, Ofahengaue – Interchanges: Liddle, Utoikamanu, Seyfarth, Mikaele – Reserves: Chee-Kam, Musgrove, Amone, Blore

  • Wests Tigers avoided a fifth straight defeat by winning for just the second time this campaign thanks to victory over St. George Illawarra Dragons last week and they will be desperate to build on that effort.
  • Wests were deserved winners as they showed some defensive mettle to restrict the Dragons to just a solitary try and that will be an important area for them in this game with Gold Coast Titans able to ask plenty of questions with the ball.

GOLD COAST TITANS

Starting 13: Brimson, Don, Kelly, Fermor, Sami, Taylor, Fogarty, Wallace, Rein, Fa’asuamaleaui, Proctor, Fifita, Peachey – Interchanges: Fotuaika, Ese’ese, Jolliffe, Clark – Reserves: McIntyre, Boyd, Campbell, Marsters

Unavailable: Sam Lisone (Injured), Patrick Herbert (Injured), Sam Stone (Injured), Jonus Pearson (Injured), Corey Thompson (Injured)

  • Gold Coast Titans suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of local rivals Brisbane Broncos last week with the Titans somehow managing to surrender a 22-point lead by half-time and they could not halt the momentum in the second half.
  • Justin Holbrook’s side raced into a 0-22 lead after just 15 minutes in what was a blistering start but their defensive frailties were abundantly clear once again with them now conceding at least 36 points in each of their last three outings.

THE PREDICTION

Wests Tigers earned a rare win last week and in what was a promising display, there is hope that they can build on that to turn their season around. In a week in which head coach Michael Maguire came under serious pressure, his side produced when it mattered and they will believe they can make it back-to-back wins as they take on Gold Coast Titans who come into this on the back of a three-match losing streak. They have conceded 112 points in those matches and that could open the door for Wests but in a game where defence is unlikely to be on top, this contest should produce at least 42 points.
