THE TEAM NEWS

MANLY SEA EAGLES

Starting 13: Walker, Saab, Parker, Suli, Garrick, Foran, Cherry-Evans, Aloiai, Croker, Taupau, Davey, Sironen, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Cust, Gosiewski, Keppie, Paseka – Reserves: Schuster, Funa, Sipley, Harper

Unavailable: Tom Trbojevic (Injured), Jorge Taufua (Injured), Manase Fainu (Suspended)

  • Manly Sea Eagles produced a woeful performance as they were thrashed in their opening game of the season against Sydney Roosters and they have it all to do if they are to avoid a similar outcome against South Sydney Rabbitohs.
  • The Sea Eagles conceded nine tries with their edges looking worryingly unprepared to deal with what the Roosters threw at them and they will have to show a marked improvement on their 39 missed tackles in last week’s contest.

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Starting 13: Mitchell, Johnston, Gagai, Graham, Paulo, Walker, Reynolds, Burgess, Cook, Tatola, Koloamatangi, Su’A, Murray – Interchanges: Marshall, Nicholls, Mago, Arrow – Reserves: Knight, Moga, Mansour, Host

Unavailable: Hame Sele (Injured), Blake Taaffe (Injured), Taane Milne (Injured), Braidon Burns (Injured), Jed Cartwright (Injured), Brock Gardner (Injured)

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs were blown away by a superb start to the season by premiers Melbourne Storm and despite a strong fightback from the Rabbits, they ultimately fell short as they failed to sufficiently respect the ball.
  • Souths only lost out 26-18 despite seeing just 38% of the ball having made 16 errors and their completion rate of 63% was just not good enough to win the game with their ball control likely to be an area they look to improve on this week.

THE PREDICTION

Manly Sea Eagles were on the end of a big defeat to start their season and this is a far from ideal game to respond as they host South Sydney Rabbitohs. The hosts were hammered by Sydney Roosters as they failed to deal with the opposition's ball movement and with Souths boasting a potent left edge where they will believe they can score at will, it could be another long afternoon for Manly. They will have worked on their defence this week, particularly on the edges, but the Rabbitohs showed plenty in defeat to Melbourne Storm last week and they can earn their first win of the campaign in impressive fashion with the margin likely to be 13+.
