QINWEN ZHENG VS DONNA VEKIC PREDICTION

This has all the makings of a special Olympic final when considering the form of both these two players and the respective scalps already taken by the pair. Quinwen Zheng ended world number one Iga Swiatek’s 25-match winning streak at Roland-Garros to reach the final, while Donna Vekic boasts victories over Grand Slam winners Bianca Andreescu and Coco Gauff, as well as a semi-final triumph over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

The ‘never-say-die’ attitude of Vekic will make her extremely difficult to dominate and Zheng is unlikely to quickly take control of this contest, even if she matches the levels of performance she showed against Swiatek. Two of Zheng’s last three encounters have seen the first set decided via a tie-break, which underlines that point. Either way, very little is expected to separate these two players in such a high-pressure environment and backing this gold medal match to go the distance appears the sensible move.
