Having won the last three French Open singles championships, it was no surprise to see Iga Swiatek get her Olympic singles campaign off to a winning start at Roland-Garros, but in home favourite Diane Perry, Swiatek is set for a different kind of challenge.

Iga Swiatek knows she faces very dangerous opposition in the second round. Although she is brilliant on the outdoor clay, Diane Perry is a tenacious and super-talented 21-year-old and with the French crowd behind her, will have a huge wave of momentum in her favour. This won’t be a walkover and Swiatek is going to need to work extremely hard across this encounter.
The problem for Parry is that in Swiatek she is taking on a phenom when it comes to playing at Roland-Garros. She’s also now vastly experienced in pressure-matches which is very important when considering this is the Olympics and as a player you only get one shot at it every four years. Therefore, back Swiatek to get through, although a smart move may be backing her to do so in three sets.
