A generational talent and the Number One pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Victor Wembanyama is all set to make his first appearance for France in the Olympics. His partnership with fellow NBA star Rudy Gobert could light up the floor and thrill the home crowd, but it’s important to note the size of the task they face in this tournament, with the majority of their team on a vastly inferior skill level.

However, the sheer ability of ‘Wemby’ is good enough to carry France through and having home advantage will also play into their favour. Brazil’s defence can struggle through extended periods of gametime and against the likes of Wembanyama and Gobert, their dangerous guards could find themselves shut down at key moments. A close contest looks to be on the cards, but the smart play would be backing France to pull through.
