TIM ELLIOTT VS SU MUDAERJI LOWDOWN

Tim Elliott (19-13-1) steps in on short notice to replace Allan Nascimento. He has fought twice this year with mixed fortunes. He earnt the 10th decision of his career which was over Victor Altamirano but then got submitted by the up-and-coming Muhammad Mokaev at UFC 294. So, he has pounced on the chance to get back in the win column.

We have not seen Su Mudaerji (16-5) since July last year in a fight that many believe was the best fight of 2022. He was coming off unanimous decisions over Andre Soukhamthath (2019) and Zarrukh Adashev (2021) sandwiching a knockout over Malcolm Gordon (2020). He met Matt Schnell at UFC on ABC 3 and it was the definition of a back-and-forth war with Schnell coming out on top with a submission in the second round.

TIM ELLIOTT VS SU MUDAERJI PREDICTION

Elliott is the favourite despite taking this fight on less than a weeks’ notice. They are both southpaws but that is where the similarities end. Mudaerji is a striker by trade and will boast a six-inch reach advantage whereas as Elliott’s strengths lay in his wrestling with a wealth of experience in the bank.

We can fully expect Elliott to go about business as usual and begin with his unorthodox striking and movement before setting up a takedown. Mudaerji is clearly the better striker and can cause damage from range, but if he cannot defend the takedown, he will be dragged into dark waters.

Worryingly for the China native, Elliott has only been knocked out once and that was 14 years ago at lightweight before he even had a win on the record. So, Mudaerji is going to need to defend the majority of takedowns and earn the points on the feet.

He has a 66% takedown defence which may not be enough as Elliott will be relentless for three rounds and we are backing him to grind out a decision. Considering he is taking this on short notice, the value is with Mudaerji as the underdog.

Prediction: Elliott via Decision

Value bet: Mudaerji to win
