SERGEI PAVLOVICH VS ALEXANDER VOLKOV LOWDOWN
Sergei Pavlovich (18-2) has dusted himself off and desperate to glove up after his second loss inside the octagon. It was a devasting one where Tom Aspinall (2023) knocked him out in the first round to snap a swashbuckling six-fight knockout streak including the scalps of Curtis Blaydes (2023), Tai Tuivasa (2022) and Derrick Lewis (2022) missing out on the interim championship.
Alexander Volkov’s (37-10) last loss was also at the hands of Aspinall (2022). He was dominated in the first round and got caught in an armbar. However, he has picked up some serious momentum since then knocking out Jairzinho Rozenstruik (2022) and Alexander Romanov (2023) before wrapping Tuivasa (2023) up in a sublime Ezekiel choke.
SERGEI PAVLOVICH VS ALEXANDER VOLKOV PREDICTION
A vintage finish will catapult either Russian into title contention. Pavlovich will swing for the chin whereas Volkov will be more patient and technical. He also has his improved grappling to call upon however, getting close to Pavlovich is usually a death sentence.
Pavlovich will boast the reach advantage with his freaky 84 inches for his 6’3” frame to Volkov’s 80 inches standing at 6’7”. So, expect Volkov to throw a lot of kicks and teeps down the middle hoping to maintain the distance.
Aspinall was able to counter the dynamite in Pavlovich’s hands with his speed. Volkov is slow and he does not have the explosiveness to shoot in and dump Pavlovich on his back. Pavlovich is one-dimensional however he has nuclear bombs in his hands and the reach to find the chin.
Volkov is the better all-around fighter and is worth a punt as the underdog especially if this goes past the first round, but we can see him getting knocked out emphatically.
