PETR YAN VS YADONG SONG LOWDOWN
When Petr Yan (16-5) earnt a unanimous decision over Cory Sandhagen (2021) after gifting his bantamweight title to Aljamain Sterling (2021), many fans dubbed him as the people’s champion. Those fans certainly could not have seen him losing his next three. He lost a split decision in the rematch with Sterling (2022) at UFC 272 and then lost another controversial split decision to the current champion Sean O’Malley (2022).Merab Dvalishvili (2023) poured on the misery with a suffocating unanimous decision to slump to 1-4 in his last five.
Yadong Song (21-7-1(1)) hopes to add to that misery by extending his win streak to three. His last loss was to Sandhagen (2022) who carved him up forcing the doctor to call an end to the fight in the fourth round. However, he bounced back with a brilliant TKO over Ricky Simon (2023) in the fifth round and unanimous decision over Chris Gutierrez (2023) at UFC Fight Night 233.
PETR YAN VS YADONG SONG PREDICTION
All the form is with Song, but Yan is the best striker he has ever faced. This will be an extremely high-level striking battle, but do not be surprised to see them clinch up with the odd takedown attempt.
Yan will incorporate trips and Song may launch takedown attempts to leverage their striking. Yan is extremely technical and dangerous with all eight limbs. Song is also technical and will have the edge in speed and power.
Song continues to improve and despite the loss, going four rounds with Sandhagen will only have made him a better fighter. We expect this to be a very competitive scrap with both fighters having their moments by inflicting more damage and winning rounds.
Despite their power, we expect this to go to the bell as Song is extremely durable and Yan has superb defence having never been knocked out. In a fight this close, back the underdog, but we feel the best defence will come out on top which will be Yan’s.
