When Mohammed Usman (10-3) starched Zac Pauga (2022) to become The Ultimate Fighter 30 champion, we wondered how high his ceiling was. Three fights later, that knockout power has dried up with all fights ending via unanimous decision. He beat Junior Tafa (2023) and Jake Collier (2023) but got outclassed by Mick Parkin (2024) at UFC on ESPN 53.
There was also a slight buzz for Thomas Petersen (8-2) when he made his UFC debut. All of his wins had come via knockout, and he showed another string to his bow on the Contender Series by wrapping Chandler Cole (2023) up in a keylock. He met Jamal Pogues (2024) for his UFC debut and was found out losing a unanimous decision snapping his three-fight streak.

It is fair to say neither of these lumps will contend for the title any time soon, but you cannot deny their knockout ability. Usman is a beast of an athlete with explosive power. His striking and wrestling is good enough to pick up wins but needs to work on putting those skills together to dominate and finish.
Petersen on the other hand sticks to his grappling and is very good at it. He will look to be a wet blanket, drag Usman to the ground and keep him pinned on his back while raining down the ground-and-pound.
The worry for him is that he struggled to enforce that game plan against Pogues and Usman is a lot more explosive. We can see either fighter win an uninspiring decision or knockout from nowhere. We are backing the speed and power of Usman to prevent Petersen enforcing his grappling.
