KATLYN CERMINARA VS MAYCEE BARBER LOWDOWN
Katlyn Chookagian (18-5) or now Katlyn Cerminara resumes her occupancy at the gate of the flyweight division. She kept in shut for two years by outpointing Cynthia Calvillo (2020), Viviane Araujo (2021), Jennifer Maia (2022) and Amanda Ribas (2022). Manon Fiorot (2022) was the next contender knocking at the gate and she bulldozed her way through with a unanimous decision of her own at UFC 280 to snap the four-fight streak.
The next hungry contender in line is Maycee Barber (13-2) who is sitting on a five-fight win streak. She is starting to live up to her potential after losing unanimous decisions to Roxanne Modafferi (2020) and Alexa Grasso (2021). She responded by outpointing Miranda Maverick (2021), Montana De La Rosa (2022), Jessica Eye (2022) and Andrea Lee (2023). She is is now coming off a brilliant TKO over Ribas back in June last year.
KATLYN CERMINARA VS MAYCEE BARBER PREDICTION
These two have their eyes on the top three rankings but may need more than a routine decision to get there. We know what to expect from Cerminara and that will be to point-fight from range. She will not threaten the knockout, but she is an expert at managing distance.
Barber has the skill set to counter this and more importantly has the aggression. She will try and walk Cerminara down, close the distance and hope she lands in top position to pour on the ground-and-pound.
Her wrestling is improving, but Cerminara has stifled much better wrestlers. She is the underdog but represents all of the value. We can see Barber getting discouraged with a couple failed takedown attempts and resorting to a striking battle which will suit Cerminara.
All of the momentum is with the young gun and if she brings an even more improved version of herself, we can see her running through the gatekeeper. However, we feel Cerminara can squeak out a decision and cause the upset.
