DREW DOBER VS MATT FREVOLA LOWDOWN

Drew Dober (26-11(1)) is back in the familiar territory of a knockout streak. He reeled off his third knockout in a row in 2020 by dispatching Alexander Hernandez but the momentum was abruptly halted in 2021. He got mauled and submitted by the current champion Islam Makhachev and then lost to Brad Riddell losing a unanimous decision which was closer than the scorecards suggested. However, he gained full steam last year after knocking out Terrance McKinney, Rafael Alves and Bobby Green.

Now, he takes on Matt Frevola (10-3-1) who has also made a habit of knocking out UFC foes. 2021 was also a tough year for him suffering two losses. He got outpointed by Arman Tsarukyan and then starched by McKinney, but like Dober, bounced back last year by knocking out Genaro Valdez and Ottman Azaitar in the first round.

DREW DOBER VS MATT FREVOLA PREDICTION

This should really be on the main card. Dober’s last six wins have all come via knockout which is staggering at this level in the lightweight division and Frevola is cut from a similar cloth, so fireworks are fully expected.

They both have kettlebells for hands and Dober has the experience and technique to match. If Frevola decides to stand and trade, he has every chance of knocking out the UFC vet, but we would back Dober to be the last man standing.

The glaring hole in Dober’s game is his takedown defence, so if Frevola has any nous, he will get his wrestling boots on. If he makes this boring and chains takedowns together, we can see him grinding out a decision.

However, he will have a lot of home fans making the short trip from New York which may get him excited and instigate a brawl. We are backing Dober to find capitalize when an opening presents itself, but Frevola holds all the value considering the odds and his wrestling ability.
