CHARLES OLIVEIRA VS ARMAN TSARUKYAN LOWDOWN

Charles Oliveira (34-9(1)) wants his lightweight title back but has to get past one of the biggest prospects in the division. He strung together arguably the most impressive run we haver seen in the lightweight division reeling off 11 high quality wins which included three knockouts and seven submissions. During his title reign he submitted Dustin Poirier (2021) and Justin Gaethje (2022) after knocking out Michael Chandler (2021) to claim the vacant title. However, Islam Makhachev (2022) ruthlessly dethroned him with a submission of his own. He returned seven months later in June last year and got straight back to this finishing ways by knocking out Beneil Dariush at UFC 289.

Arman Tsarukyan (21-2) is standing in his way holding hopes of his own title shot. After losing a unanimous decision to Makhachev (2019) on debut, he went on a five-fight winning streak. Mateusz Gamrot (2022) halted the momentum in a unanimous decision, however, he has picked up some momentum going on to outpoint Damir Ismagulov (2022) and knock out Joaquim Silva and Dariush last year.

CHARLES OLIVEIRA VS ARMAN TSARUKYAN PREDICTION

There is a lot on the line for both fighters with the winner expected to be next for Makhachev. Besides the champ, they are two of the best grapplers in the division. We all know about Oliveira’s submission prowess and Tsarukyan gave Makhachev a run for his money in the wrestling department.

It is surprising to see Tsarukyan as such a large favourite. He has future title challenger written all over him, but Oliveira already has championship experience and is arguably the most dangerous lightweight and can finish Tsarukyan from anywhere.

Tsarukyan can take Oliveira down with ease, but the Brazilian relishes attacking off his back and he will be confident of snatching an arm or wrapping up a choke.

If their grappling cancels each other out to force striking exchanges, you have to back Oliveira. He has become technically sound, and his left hook and straight right will be money.

We understand why Tsarukyan is the favourite as he will land the takedown. However, there are more ways that Oliveira can win and his experience will help him find a way. We are predicting him to illustrate his superior striking with a knockout.

Prediction: Oliveira via KO/TKO

Value bet: Oliveira to win
