CASEY O’NEILL VS LUANA SANTOS LOWDOWN
Casey O’Neill returns to Australia in search of a much-needed win after suffering two back-to-back losses in the Octagon. The 26-year-old started her professional MMA career with nine wins in succession but she lost a decision to Jennifer Maia at UFC 286 and then was submitted by Ariane Lipski at UFC 296. She now returns with added focus looking to halt the slide and get back to the win column in Perth.
She meets Brazilian Luana Santos who brings an 8-1 record into this fight. She has won her last five fights, but it is fair to say that the level of opponent has not been at the level of which O’Neill has faced. She is however a good fighter who is on the up and one O’Neill should not underestimate.

This promises to be a really good fight and one of the most competitive on the prelims. O’Neill has spoken about her need to refocus and that has led to a change in training camp and base so it will be interesting to see if that makes a difference to her in this fight.
Luana is a dangerous opponent and one that is more than capable of causing O’Neill plenty of issues. She has an array of submissions at his disposal and has improved with every fight as the level of opponent has improved. This is undoubtedly the biggest fight of her career and she will be super motivated to win this.
O’Neill knows she cannot really afford another loss and with support on her side, that should see her incredibly fired up for this one. This really is a tough one to call and as the betting suggests, there is little to pick between them. We have a marginal preference for O’Neill but our play here is on the fight going the distance.
