CARLA ESPARZA: RETIREMENT FIGHT FOR ESPARZA AS SHE LOOKS TO GO OUT IN STYLE

After the birth of her child and almost two years out of the Octagon, Carla Esparza (19-7) returns for one last dance as she has announced this will be her final fight before she hangs up her gloves. She last fought at UFC 281 in November 2022 where she was submitted by Zhang Weili to lose the women’s strawweight championship. That came after a superb six-fight win streak which saw her win the title by beating Rose Namajunas. She returns for the final time now and will look to sign off in style.

TECIA PENNINGTON: THE TINY TORNADO LOOKS TO SNAP TWO-FIGHT SKID

After not fighting for just over two years due to the birth of her daughter, Tecia Pennington returned to the UFC in May 2024 but lost via decision at the hands of Tabatha Ricci. That was her second consecutive decision loss that followed a three-fight win streak so she will be eager to get back to winning ways here.

CARLA ESPARZA VS TECIA PENNINGTON PREDICTION

Both Carla Esparza and Tecia Pennington have had lengthy spells out of action due to the birth of their children and now they share the Octagon for what will be Carla Esparza’s final fight before she retires.

Esparza has had some career having been a two-time strawweight champion in the UFC and being the competitor that she is, will be determined to leave on a positive note.

Tecia Pennington will be no pushover however and the one thing nobody can doubt about her is her impressive durability. Nine of her last ten fights have gone to the scorecards and the only one that did not was stopped by the doctor. 18 of Pennington’s professional MMA bouts have gone the distance.

She will make it incredibly tough for Esparza and much will depend on what shape Esparza is in after two years out. Pennington has had the benefit of a bout since her absence and that will surely help her.

The unknowns are more around Esparza and any kind of Octagon rust she may experience. This fight has to be favoured to go the distance and while we have a small leaning to Esparza, the best play is on backing this fight to go to the scorecards.

PREDICTION: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE
