TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
- The Maple Leafs are one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference, and they are coming off a big 8-6 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in one of the best games of the year. Toronto enter this game on a five-game winning run, and that result has pushed them all the way to seventh place in the East with 44 points.
- Winger Trevor Moore has been listed as questionable for the Maple Leafs. Three other players have been ruled out, though. The list includes forwards Andreas Johnsson, Nathan Horton and David Clarkson.
- The Maple Leafs should rely on their star center, Auston Matthews. The 22-year-old is one of the most promising young players in the league, and he currently leads Toronto in both goals (24) and points (43) while ranking third in assists with 19.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
- The Devils enter this game with their morale quite high, as they are coming off a big 7-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. That result ended a two-game losing run for them, but they still are 3-2 over their last five contests. The Devils, however, remain one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference since they are in 15th place with 29 points.
- New Jersey should be close to full strength entering this game, although goaltender Louis Domingue has been listed as questionable due to a lower body injury. Meanwhile, Matt Tennyson is out due to an upper body injury, but he should be close to a return.
- The Devils do not have Taylor Hall on their roster anymore, so they could rely on Kyle Palmieri. The 28-year-old winger leads the team in points (23) and goals (14), while sitting in fifth place on the assists department with nine. He is one of the franchise’s most productive players and attractive trade assets moving forward.
THE PREDICTION
Toronto are one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference at the moment thanks to their five-game winning streak and, as if that wasn’t enough, they also own the Conference’s second best attack since they netted 133 goals. Only the East-leading Washington Capitals can top that tally. The Devils have the second-worst attack (91 goals) and the second-worst defence (128 goals) in the East, and that is not a recipe for success. Toronto might be playing on the road, but they shouldn’t have issues in securing the win here.
