BRAZIL PREVIEW: LAST-GASP WIN

Last week's late show at Chile may not have been the performance that under-pressure manager Dorival Junior was looking for, but the result was what mattered most and he would have been most grateful for Luiz Henrique's 89th-minute skin saver.

The Selecao, who have been wholly unconvincing over the past year, moved up to fourth in the standings with that victory but they have not won back-to-back CONMEBOL qualifiers since the opening two matches of the campaign.

PERU PREVIEW: OFF THE BOTTOM

Peru lifted themselves off the bottom of the World Cup qualifying standings with their first non-friendly victory since March 2022 last week, defeating an under-strength Uruguay side courtesy of a late header from defender Miguel Araujo, which sparked jubilant scenes in Lima.

However, Peru have lost their last 13 meetings with Brazil, and have failed to score in ten of those, so they will have to defy those trends if they are to get something out of this game.

BRAZIL TEAM NEWS: PAQUETA MISSES OUT

Lucas Paqueta is suspended after his booking against Chile, and Dorival Junior has subsequently called up Cruzeiro's Matheus Pereira to the national squad for the first time. However, it is likely to be Bruno Guimaraes who steps into the starting line-up.

Key men Alisson Becker and Vinicius Junior are both missing from the squad with injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Abner; Bruno Guimaraes, Andre; Savinho, Raphinha, Rodrygo; Igor Jesus

UNAVAILABLE: Paqueta (Suspended)

PERU TEAM NEWS: UNCHANGED XI LIKELY

Jorge Fossati could go unchanged following the win over Uruguay, but he will be without striker Gianluca Lapadula who was was a late withdrawal from the squad with injury.

The Peru boss is likely to retain his three-at-the-back system but it will become a back five at times as the hosts seek to contain Brazil's attacking threat.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Gallesse; Araujo, Zambrano, Abram, Polo, Sonne, Castillo, Pena, Callens; Valera, Flores

UNAVAILABLE: Lapadula (Injured), Trauco (Injured), Santamaria (Injured)

BRAZIL VS PERU PREDICTION

Brazil are certainly not where they want to be and they have a long way to go if they are to compete with the top nations, but their win at Chile last week was at least a step in the right direction, and they can build on that here against a team they historically dominate.

Peru recorded an excellent win themselves last week, but such moments are few and far between for them and normal service is likely to resume here with a comfortable home win.
