THE PREDICTION
Champions League winners Chelsea face Europa League champions Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup as the two sides battle to secure the first European trophy of the season. Both these teams hugely impressed from a defensive perspective last season, with Chelsea keeping five clean sheets in seven Champions League knockout matches under head coach Thomas Tuchel including their victory by a goal to nil over Man City in the final, whilst Villarreal recorded four shutouts in their seven Europa League fixtures played from the round of 16 onwards last season. With silverware at stake, another tight encounter appears very much in prospect and although Chelsea are working hard to complete the signing of prolific Internazionale striker Romelu Lukaku, the move isn’t expected to be complete in time for the Belgian to feature in this match and provide the Blues with the added firepower they desperately need ahead of the new campaign. Goals are likely to be at a premium here and under 2.5 goals scored over 90 minutes is to be favoured.
