THE LOWDOWN

SEVILLA

Sevilla head into the third matchday of the Champions League group stage on the back of consecutive draws against Lens and PSV Eindhoven respectively. You could argue that they are turning into draw specialists at this stage with their last three games in all competitions finishing level. Three points here though would see them leapfrog Arsenal in Group B, maintaining an unbeaten group stage campaign in the process.

This past Saturday saw Sevilla make a statement, pulling off their most impressive result this season by taking a point from La Liga leaders Real Madrid. Such a result will no doubt give the home side belief that they can go out and inflict a second straight away defeat upon Arsenal in the Champions League.

ARSENAL

Whilst Arsenal remain unbeaten in the Premier League, they were dealt a bloody nose last time out in the Champions League, losing to Lens in hugely surprising fashion after taking an early lead through Gabriel Jesus. The result was a deserved one for Mikel Arteta’s side, who were second best against the Ligue 1 club and perhaps brought them down to earth after brushing aside PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in their opening group game.

Arsenal were last in action on Saturday in a London derby against Chelsea. After falling two goals behind, they rallied admirably, pulling a goal back through Declan Rice’s cool long-range strike following a mistake by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez, before substitute Leandro Trossard levelled things up.

THE TEAM NEWS

SEVILLA

Jose Luis Mendilibar looks to have a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of this game, but is unlikely to make any significant adjustments from the side who drew with Real Madrid at the weekend. Wingers Erik Lamela and Suso both came off the bench in that match and can make strong cases to come into the starting XI.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Nyland; Navas, Gudelj, Ramos, Acuna; Sow, Soumare, Rakitic; Suso, En-Nesyri, Lukebakio

ARSENAL

Midfielder Jorginho is expected to drop to the bench for the Gunners’ trip to Spain, with Thomas Partey playing from the start instead. After scoring the equaliser against Chelsea, Leandro Trossard could be rewarded by Mikel Arteta with a start on the left-hand-side of attack ahead of Gabriel Martinelli. Following his horror-show at Stamford Bridge, goalkeeper David Raya may be taken out of the firing line and Aaron Ramsdale restored to the XI.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Partey; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Timber (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

For Arsenal not to be at their best but still come from two goals down to draw away at Chelsea says so much about their resilience as a side. The visitors have found the net at least once in all 13 fixtures they’ve competed in this season, which puts into perspective the job Sevilla’s backline have on their hands. But the hosts’ confidence will be high following their point at the weekend and Sevilla have scored eight times across their last three home fixtures in all competitions. Regardless of the final outcome here, expect both teams to score for a fourth consecutive match involving Sevilla.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
