THE LOWDOWN

BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern Munich couldn’t have responded any better to their stunning exit from the DFB-Pokal at the hands of German third tier side Saarbrucken last week. The ‘Rekordmeister’ travelled to Borussia Dortmund for the first ‘Der Klassiker’ of the season and made a huge statement, thrashing Edin Terzic’s side on their own patch, winning by four goals to nil.

Harry Kane’s incredible start to life with the German champions continued at the weekend as he bagged his third hat-trick of the campaign and his second in as many league games. The England superstar already boasts a goal and an assist to his name against Galatasaray in the reverse fixture and is well-placed to carry on his ruthlessness in front of goal.

GALATASARAY

Despite their 1-3 home defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich two weeks ago, Galatasaray remain in a very good position in Group A, where they currently occupy second-spot above Man Utd by one point and three points ahead of Copenhagen. The Turkish giants have found the net at least once in each of their three group matches so far, but defensively are struggling, conceding seven goals so far and at least two per-game.

They travel to Germany on the back of consecutive league victories, but Bayern Munich represents a significantly different kettle of fish. But with the attacking options at Galatasaray’s disposal such as Mauro Icardi and Hakim Ziyech, the visitors know that they have the ammunition to punish Bayern from an attacking perspective.

THE TEAM NEWS

BAYERN MUNICH

The Bundesliga champions are expected to make one change to the side who dismantled Dortmund on Saturday, that being captain Joshua Kimmich returning to the starting line-up. Either Konrad Laimer or Leon Goretzka will come out of the side to accommodate Kimmich, while star-striker Harry Kane is expected to play despite the temptation no doubt to rest him.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Mazraoui, Upamecano, Kim, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Sane, Musiala, Coman; Kane

UNAVAILABLE: De Ligt (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Guerreiro (Injured)

GALATASARAY

The big news from Galatasaray’s point of view is the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The senior stopper has a shoulder injury and won’t play a part in Munich. Therefore, Gunay Guvenc will need to step up in his absence and what a huge job he has to keep out the likes of Kane and co.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Guvenç; Boey, Sanchez, Bardakci, Angelino; Ayhan, Torreira; Ziyech, Akturkoglu, Zaha; Icardi

UNAVAILABLE: Muslera (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Bayern Munich’s formidable home form and relentless attacking methods should see them enjoy plenty of dominance across this encounter and carve out plenty of opportunities against a side they put three past in Turkey a fortnight ago. The visitors do pose a clear threat on the counter-attack through the likes of Zaha, whom Bayern will need to be well-aware of. But when taking into account that Thomas Tuchel’s men have racked up 22 goals across their last four home games in all competitions, the expectation is that their attacking players will overwhelm the Galatasaray backline and lead Bayern to victory by at least two clear goals.

TIP: BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN WITH -1 HANDICAP
