THE LOWDOWN

SEVILLA

It has been yet another horrible season for Sevilla and, both on and off the pitch, they are a bit of a mess with a relegation battle possibly the least of their concerns at the moment. However, they do come into this on the back of Youssef En-Nesyri returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and scoring a brace to defeat Rayo Vallecano by two goals to one last weekend.

The Andalusians, now coached by former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores after both Diego Alonso and Jose Luis Mendilibar were sacked earlier on in the campaign, begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting three points and three places above the bottom three and the relegation places having won just four of their 23 games so far this season.

ATLETICO MADRID

Atletico Madrid have tweaked and evolved their style of football in the last 12-18 months under Diego Simeone but Los Rojiblancos, for different reasons, have remained inconsistent and they come into this one on the back of a frustrating defeat, losing 1-0 at home to Athletic Club in the first-leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie.

The visitors held city rivals Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last weekend, meaning they are currently ten points adrift of the league leaders ahead of the weekend and that will be increased with Real Madrid and Girona facing off against each other on Saturday evening. Their challenge will be to stave off pressure from Athletic on their top four spot.

THE TEAM NEWS

SEVILLA

New signing Lucien Agoume is missing through injury this weekend, whilst the likes of Tanguy Nianzou and Marcao are also missing on Sunday evening.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Nyland; Navas, Bade, Benavides Fuentes; Sow, Mejbri, Soumare, Ocampos; En-Nesyri, Romero

UNAVAILABLE: Agoume (Injured), Marcao (Injured), Nianzou (Injured), Salas (Injured), Gudelj (Injured), Lukebakio (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Lamela (Injured), Mariano Diaz (Injured)

ATLETICO MADRID

There are several issues for Atletico Madrid this weekend with Alvaro Morata a doubt, whilst Saul Niguez is out suspended and Jose Maria Gimenez is among those sidelined through injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Oblak; Savic, Witsel, Hermoso; Llorente, De Paul, Koke, Barrios, Riquelme; Morata, Griezmann

UNAVAILABLE: Saul (Suspended), Gimenez (Injured), Azpilicueta (Injured), Lemar (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Morata (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These are two of the biggest clubs in Spain but they are experiencing very different seasons. On and off the pitch is a bit messy for Sevilla at the moment and their victory over Rayo last weekend will be viewed by many as papering over cracks. Atletico have been very good at responding and reacting to setbacks this season so, on the back of a defeat to Athletic the other day, backing the visitors against struggling opposition would appear the safe bet on Sunday evening.

TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN
