THE LOWDOWN

REAL MADRID

Carlo Ancelotti and his future remains a little in doubt with the Brazilian national team and rumours persisting. However, Los Blancos have been bailed out time and again this season with Jude Bellingham settling into life at the Bernabeu immaculately well. However, due to a slight knock, he was an unused sub in their defeat of Braga.

Madrid fell a couple of points behind Girona at the top-of-the-table with the 14-time European champions being held to a goalless draw by city rivals Rayo Vallecano last weekend. They remain a typical ‘Real Madrid’ team, though, and possibly even more so as they perform relatively poorly but continuously, or at least often, get over the line.

VALENCIA

Off-field issues have ruined the harmony and general reputation of Valencia over recent years and those off-field issues have led to severe fan protest. However, the visitors are actually overperforming expectations so far this season as they had been expected, like last year, to be down in a relegation dogfight.

They come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 victory over strugglers Granada, which has them on the cusp of the top seven and the European places. Ruben Baraja, who was originally placed in temporary charge and led them to final day survival last season, is currently overseeing a four-match unbeaten run of form.

THE TEAM NEWS

REAL MADRID

Real Madrid are without suspended Antonio Rudiger and they have some goalkeeping injury issues as Kepa Arrizabalaga and Thibaut Courtois are both injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-2-1-2): Lunin; Carvajal, Nacho, Alaba, Mendy; Modric; Kroos, Valverde; Bellingham; Rodrygo, Vinicius

UNAVAILABLE: Rudiger (Suspended), Arrizabalaga (Injured), Tchouameni (Injured), Ceballos (Injured), Militao (Injured), Courtois (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

VALENCIA

Valencia have a couple of genuinely very important injury concerns with Mouctar Diakhaby and Selim Amallah unavailable, with Hugo Duro a doubt.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Mamardashvili; Correia, Mosquera, Gabriel, Gaya; Perez, Pepelu, Guerra, Canos; Lopez, Yaremchuk

UNAVAILABLE: Amallah (Injured), Almeida (Injured), Diakhaby (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Duro (Injured), Vazquez (Injured), Mari (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Real Madrid are not to be trusted and backed overly confidently and yet they are Real Madrid, challenging for the title with just one defeat across 16 matches in all competitions so far this season. Los Blancos have a habit of underperforming against stubborn and well coached, difficult to play against sides – which is what Valencia under Ruben Baraja would be described as. A fairly frustrating but eventually effective victory for Madrid is to be expected on Saturday evening.

BETTING TIP: REAL MADRID TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
