THE LOWDOWN

REAL MADRID

Despite several injuries, a lack of attacking depth and numbers, Carlo Ancelotti’s future remaining uncertain as the Brazilian national team continue to be linked, Real Madrid have begun the 2023/24 La Liga season in very impressive form with three successive victories; albeit at least two of those were unconvincing.

The star man in their run at the start of this season has been their newest ‘galactico’ signing over the summer, England’s Jude Bellingham. Madrid began the campaign with a 2-0 win at Athletic Club at San Mames with Bellingham scoring and getting the man of the match award. Then they defeated Almeria by three goals to one with Bellingham scoring a brace, getting an assist and being given the man of the match award. Last weekend, Madrid won 1-0 at Celta with Bellingham scoring a late winner and, of course, being given the man of the match award.

GETAFE

Last season, Getafe narrowly avoided relegation to the second-tier after appointing former manager Jose Bordalas to replace Quique Sanchez Flores ahead of the run-in. Bordalas is known for his aggressive and defensive style of football that was shown in a very clear example on the opening day of the season against Barcelona with a goalless draw, two red cards and, remarkably, 26 minutes of stoppage-time.

The Madrid-based club have since won one and lost one as they seek to replicate Bordalas’ first spell where they reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. Getafe went to Catalonia and were hammered 3-0 by an impressive Girona side before then edging out Alaves by a goal to nil at the Coliseum last week.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Soria; Suarez, Duarte, Mitrovic, Alvarez; Iglesias, Maksimovic, Djene, Mata; Latasa, Mayoral

THE PREDICTION

Despite their impressive start to this season, Real Madrid have been heavily reliant on moments of magic or quality from Jude Bellingham, as well as Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior. Now they are without Vinicius, they will have to use the presence and physicality of Joselu to play off and it could become quite laboured at the Bernabeu; especially against a Getafe side that are so direct and aggressive. Madrid remain the favourites for this one but it could well be a low-scoring victory for Los Blancos.

TIP: REAL MADRID TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
