THE LOWDOWN

REAL BETIS

Under the management of former Manchester City and Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis were pushed into third place and the UEFA Europa Conference League knockout playoffs in February after their 3-2 defeat at home to Rangers last week. That was the first time Betis had lost a game at home all season across all competitions.

The home team returned to La Liga action with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad at the weekend. That has continued their impressive unbeaten form in the league as they are without defeat in their last 12 matches in Spain’s top-flight but seven of those 12 games have finished in a draw.

GIRONA

It has been an absolutely magnificent season for Girona so far and they will head into the winter break on the top-of-the-table if they manage to defeat Betis at the Benito Villamarin this week. The Catalans earned an impressive 3-0 hammering of Deportivo Alaves in their most recent outing, on Monday evening.

The visitors, coached by Michel, have picked up a remarkable 44 points in their 17 matches so far this season. They have suffered just one defeat so far this season with that loss coming at home to fellow title challengers Real Madrid in early October. They have also been entertaining to watch with 61 goals in their 17 matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

GIRONA

Michel will have concerns over the fitness of Viktor Tsygankov who is a doubt, whilst Yangel Herrera, Borja Garcia and Toni Villa among those on the sidelines.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Gazzaniga; Garcia, Lopez, Blind; Couto, Martin, Garcia, Gutierrez; Portu, Savio; Dovbyk

UNAVAILABLE: Herrera (Injured), Borja Garcia (Injured), Casals (Injured), Artero (Injured), Villa (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Tsygankov (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This does have potential to be a bit of a thriller on Thursday evening but Real Betis have generally underwhelmed in their attacking play so far this season with Pellegrini opting to implement and work on a more functional style. Girona head down to the south of Spain in an excellent mood and confident of defeating a Betis side that have been on a long unbeaten run that has actually been quite frustrating with too many draws. As a result, backing the visitors represents good value for this one.

TIP: GIRONA TO WIN
