THE LOWDOWN
REAL BETIS
Due to the financial constraints of Spanish football as a whole, Real Betis have suffered from their own financial difficulties and have had to spend quite sensibly with free transfers being the bulk of their business throughout the summer. It has paid off for the Andalusians with good signings such as Isco and Hector Bellerin.
The home team come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Rangers in the opening match of their UEFA Europa League group stage campaign. In their opening five matches of the 2023/24 La Liga season, under the management of Manuel Pellegrini, Betis have managed two wins, a draw and two goals with a massive ten goals conceded.
CADIZ
Ever since gaining promotion to the top-flight a few years ago, Cadiz have defied all expectation year upon year by remaining in La Liga. Even in one of the craziest relegation battles ever last season, the Andalusians avoided the drop on the final day of the season, collecting 43 points in their 38 matches. Sergio is seeking to repeat the trick, once again.
They come into this on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Athletic Club in their most recent outing, at the weekend. Cadiz had started quite well, though, so they remain in the top-half ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures, having collected seven points from their opening three matches before that loss in the Basque Country.

THE PREDICTION
This is an Andalusian derby match between two sides that will have very different goals for the rest of the campaign. Real Betis are expected to challenge towards the European spots once again, albeit they have a very thin squad and lost more key players over the summer. Cadiz will simply be seeking to avoid relegation. Betis rotated in midweek so will be a bit fresher and they are favourites for this one, especially with the game at the Benito Villamarin.
