It has been a steady start to the season for Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis but there is a hint of stagnation and frustration brewing. Stagnation and frustration would be two key and optimal words to describe Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

REAL BETIS PREVIEW: BETIS’ PUSH

Former Malaga, Manchester City, Real Madrid and West Ham United coach Manuel Pellegrini has an experienced and recognisable squad this season. The Andalusians have lost some key players of that ilk over the summer but they are still strong and positive as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures once again sitting in the top seven.

It has been a tough start to their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign, though, with a 1-1 draw against Copenhagen following up a 1-0 defeat to Legia Warsaw in the Polish capital a few weeks ago. They have, though, suffered just one defeat in their last four matches in La Liga after a 2-1 defeat of Osasuna last weekend.

ATLETICO MADRID PREVIEW: NEED TO EVOLVE

Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have been trying to evolve their style of football to suit the personnel they now have available to them at the Metropolitano. They remain unbeaten in La Liga with just six goals conceded in their opening ten matches, the best defensive record in the league, but they have simply been underwhelming.

Los Rojiblancos come into this one on the back of a continuation of their poor and unconvincing results in the UEFA Champions League. Atleti were beaten 3-1 by Lille in the competition in midweek after they had been hammered 4-0 by Benfica a couple of weeks ago. They had started their campaign with a last gasp defeat of RB Leipzig.

REAL BETIS TEAM NEWS: NO NATAN

In their defeat of Osasuna last weekend, former Napoli defender Natan was sent off in second-half stoppage-time. Betis are also without key midfielders William Carvalho, Marc Roca, Giovani Lo Celso and Isco.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Silva; Hector Bellerin, Marc Bartra, Diego Llorente, Perraud; Aitor Ruibal, Johnny Cardoso, Sergio Altimira, Pablo Fornals; Bakambu, Vitor Roque

UNAVAILABLE: Natan (Suspended), Lo Celso (Injured), Carvalho (Injured), Marc Roca (Injured), Isco (Injured)

PREDICTED XI (4-1-2-1-2): Oblak; Nahuel Molina, Witsel, Jose Maria Gimenez, Javi Galan; Koke; De Paul, Gallagher; Griezmann; Sorloth, Julian Alvarez

REAL BETIS VS ATLETICO MADRID PREDICTION

Manuel Pellegini and Diego Simeone have both had their styles of football and overall consistency questioned at Real Betis and Atletico Madrid. A low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this one at the Benito Villamarin in Andalusia with Betis’ lack of attacking cohesion and potential European-caused fatigue as well as Atletico’s defensive stability and rigidity. Under 2.5 goals appears a good bet for this one.

REAL BETIS VS ATLETICO MADRID TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
