THE LOWDOWN

OSASUNA

It has been an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign for Osasuna after making it to the final of the Copa del Rey and finishing seventh last season. The Pamplona-based club, under the management of Jago Arrasate, begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom-half of the table with just four victories in their 16 La Liga matches so far this season.

They come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw away to struggling Cadiz in their most recent outing, last weekend. Osasuna are winless in their last six matches but they have scored in all six of those games, in which they have suffered three defeats and shared three draws. Their 16 matches have consisted of 44 goals in total.

RAYO VALLECANO

Rayo Vallecano have once again overperformed their expectations so far this season. Francisco’s capital city club begin the 17th match day of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table but their form in recent months has been very average with far too many draws.

Their most recent outing saw them held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Celta Vigo at Vallecas in their most recent outing, last week. The visitors are winless in their last six matches with just one victory in their last 11 matches since defeating Alaves just after the September international break.

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that are absolutely desperate for three points after some really underwhelming form of late. Osasuna begin this weekend sitting outside of the bottom three but a bit too close to comfort, especially based on last year and their pre-season expectations. Rayo are still in the top-half but look almost certain to drop after some really frustrating form in the last couple of months. Given their home advantage, ability to consistently score and Rayo’s inability to get over the line, a double chance bet in favour of Osasuna looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – OSASUNA TO WIN OR DRAW
