THE LOWDOWN

OSASUNA

Last season, Osasuna finished seventh in La Liga and qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League, finishing above the likes of Athletic Club and Sevilla. They also reached the final of the Copa del Rey, eventually losing to Real Madrid in the final. It was always a big ask for Jago Arrasate to repeat that relative success.

In their opening 11 matches of the 2023/24 La Liga season, Osasuna have managed four victories with one draw. The Pamplona-based club come into this on the back of a 2-1 defeat away to Real Betis in their most recent outing, last weekend. The hosts sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table ahead of this one.

GIRONA

After gaining promotion back to the top-flight in 2022, Girona enjoyed an impressive season as they competed for a top seven finish for much of the campaign last year, under the management of Michel. The Catalans lost the likes of Santiago Bueno, Oriol Romeu and Valentin Castellanos over the summer but have, once again, improved.

They have started this season by dropping just five points from a possible 33 and are sitting joint-top with Real Madrid at the top-of-the-table – their only defeat coming against their co-leaders. Since that loss, they have enjoyed four successive victories in all competitions, including a 2-1 defeat of San Roque de Lepe in the Copa del Rey in midweek.

THE TEAM NEWS

OSASUNA

Jago Arrasate is blessed with no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues so will be able to name an unchanged side for the visit of Girona on Saturday afternoon.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Herrera; Areso, Catena, David Garcia, Pena; Moncayola, Lucas Torro; Avila, Oroz, Gomez; Budimir

UNAVAILABLE: Cruz (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

GIRONA

Michel is having to deal with a relatively depleted squad but, fortunately, no major injury issues that affect his first choice starting eleven for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Gazzaniga; Martinez, Lopez, Blind; Herrera, Martin, Garcia, Gutierrez; Couto, Dovbyk, Savio

UNAVAILABLE: Lopez (Injured), Garcia (Injured), Fernandez (Injured), Carlos (Injured), Casals (Injured), Artero (Injured), Villa (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Garcia (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

The home team have lacked consistency throughout the season and a lot of their effectiveness that made them such a difficult to beat outfit last year. Osasuna are one of the clubs that will remain keen on a top seven finish but one of those top seven spots look certain to be filled by Girona. Such is their magnificent start to the season, the visitors are already pretty much inching their way towards their primary target of survival and, playing with freedom anyway, that will only make them even more keen to attack. This could be quite entertaining at El Sadar.
