THE LOWDOWN

OSASUNA

Last season, Osasuna earned a seventh placed spot and UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, as well as getting to the Copa del Rey final. So, this season has been an underwhelming one but that is only in relative terms comparing to last season as they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table.

Under the management of Jago Arrasate, Osasuna come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas in their most recent outing, last weekend, in a game in which Kirian Rodriguez cancelled out Unai Garcia’s opener. Osasuna have now suffered just two defeats in their last seven matches in La Liga.

ALAVES

At the turn of the year, there were fairly strong rumours and suggestions that Luis Garcia Plaza was about to be relieved of his duties at Deportivo Alaves, despite sitting in the middle-of-the-table after gaining promotion last season. However, the Basque club enjoyed three successive victories almost immediately after those rumours grew.

Since then, though, they have drawn three and lost one of their next four matches. They were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona at Mendizorroza before draws against Villarreal, Real Betis and Real Mallorca. They did lead until the 88th minute against Mallorca last weekend before Matija Nastasic’s late equaliser.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sivera; Duarte, Abqar, Marin, Lopez; Blanco, Guevara; Hagi, Guridi, Benavidez; Samu

THE PREDICTION

It is an argument for another day but some suggest this is a regional derby and with that will come some extra energy and bite. Osasuna have performed reasonably well this season and that is built upon defensive solidity. They now face an Alaves side that have managed just 25 goals scored in their 26 matches. This one is not expected to be an entertaining encounter at El Sadar with under 2.5 goals almost inevitable for this one on Monday evening.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
