THE LOWDOWN

LAS PALMAS

Following promotion to the top-flight of Spanish football last season, the ‘Brazilians of Spanish football’ as they have often been named due to the colour of their kit and stereotypical style of football, Las Palmas have been exceptional back in La Liga as they eye up a potential top seven finish and European qualification.

The Canary Islanders, led by former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, come into this one, though, on the back of being thumped in the capital city. Las Palmas suffered a 5-0 defeat at the Metropolitano last weekend against Atletico Madrid with goals coming from Memphis Depay as well as a brace by Marcos Llorente and a brace by Angel Correa.

OSASUNA

It was going to be difficult to live up to last season for Osasuna this year. The Pamplona-based club achieved a seventh placed finish in La Liga last term, consequently qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League, and also reached the final of the Copa del Rey. This time around, though, they will have to settle for mid-table mediocrity.

Still under the management of Jago Arrasate, Osasuna begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just about in the bottom-half of La Liga but they do come into this one on the back of back-to-back victories. First they defeated Real Sociedad at the Anoeta by a goal to nil before comfortably beating Cadiz by two goals to nil at El Sadar last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

LAS PALMAS

Young Argentinian midfielder Maximo Perrone is missing through suspension for this weekend, whilst Eric Curbelo is a doubt for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Valles; Suarez, Coco, Marmol, Cardona; Park, Munoz, Sinkgraven, Rodriguez, Munir; Sandro

UNAVAILABLE: Perrone (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Curbelo (Injured)

OSASUNA

Ruben Pena is a doubt for this weekend with defender David Garcia unavailable due to suspension, whilst Juan Cruz and Jose Manuel Arnaiz are out injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Herrera; Areso, U. Garcia, Herrando, Mojica; Moncayola, Munoz, Oroz; R. Garcia, Budimir, Gomez

UNAVAILABLE: David Garcia (Suspended), Cruz (Injured), Arnaiz (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Pena (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Despite their impressive campaign thus far, what has been a common theme throughout it for Las Palmas has been their lack of goal scoring prowess. The Canary Islanders have managed to notch just 25 times in 25 matches so far this season as they sit in the top-half of the table. Osasuna, on the other hand, have scored just 29 of their own and come into this one on the back of successive clean sheets. As is common in Spain, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected in Gran Canaria on Sunday afternoon.
