THE LOWDOWN

LAS PALMAS

Under the management of former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas gained automatic promotion back to the top-flight last season. With Pimienta’s La Masia background, the Canary Islanders are playing a fluent style of football that is representative of the islands’ stereotype of being the ‘Brazilians of Spanish football’.

They, though, have badly struggled at the start of this season and begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places. They come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Sevilla in their most recent outing, last weekend, and they remain winless in their opening five matches.

GRANADA

After being relegated to the second-tier in 2022, Granada started the 2022/23 season slowly and had to sack Aitor Karanka, replacing the former Middlesbrough boss with Paco Lopez. The more tactically attacking and adventurous Lopez led the Andalusians to promotion, winning the Segunda title at the end of this season.

They have began life back in La Liga with some difficult results. In their opening five matches of the campaign, they have managed just one win with four defeats so far. They have been really poor defensively, too, with their 4-2 loss at home to Girona last week meaning they have now conceded 16 goals so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

LAS PALMAS

Garcia Pimienta is without some key players as the likes of Alberto Moleiro and Daley Sinkgraven are both missing from this weekend’s encounter against Granada.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Valles; Araujo, Suarez, Marmol, Cardona; Loiodice, Rodriguez; Munir, Viera, Sandro; Kaba

UNAVAILABLE: Ramirez (Injured), Sinkgraven (Injured), Moleiro (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

GRANADA

The visitors also have some injury issues for this weekend as Marc Rubio is a doubt and Jesus Vallejo is definitely out injured for their trip to the Canary Islands.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Raul; Sanchez, Diaz, Miquel, Neva; Zaragoza, Melendo, Gumbau, Callejon; Uzuni, Boye

UNAVAILABLE: Vallejo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Rubio (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that gained promotion to the top-flight at the same time last season finishing second and first in the Spanish Segunda. Both teams play a more front foot style than most teams in the top-flight but they will both be more than happy with simply surviving by the end of the campaign. They will both see this as a major opportunity for three valuable points and, as a result, both teams scoring looks a good bet.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
