ESPANYOL PREVIEW: CATALANS FIGHTING THE DROP

Espanyol gained promotion via the playoffs, as mentioned, last season. They then lost their manager Luis Garcia to the Qatari national team with him deciding to become Tintin Marquez’ assistant coach in the middle-east. He was replaced by B team coach Manolo Gonzalez and things haven’t started too well so far this season.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Athletic Club at San Mames last weekend with goals from Dani Vivian and Alex Berenguer as well as a brace from Inaki Williams. They had gone into the October international break on the back of a victory against Real Mallorca.

SEVILLA PREVIEW: SEVILLA STEADYING THEMSELVES

In each of the last two seasons, Sevilla have required three permanent managers to eventually push themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places in La Liga. Former Las Palmas boss Garcia Pimienta is the man in charge this season as they try to move away from becoming the fallen giant of Spanish football alongside Valencia.

After decent performances but fairly average results, Sevilla went into the international break in genuinely good and much-improved form. However, they returned from the internationals with an annihilation at the hands of league leading Barcelona in Catalonia last weekend, suffering a 5-1 defeat at Estadi Olympic Lluis Companys.

ESPANYOL TEAM NEWS: A FEW ISSUES

Espanyol have had quite a few injury issues throughout this season, including captain Leandro Cabrera, and they are still dealing with a few problems ahead of this one.

Fellow defender Fernando Calero remains sidelined for the hosts, whilst the experienced Edu Exposito remains a doubt alongside attacker Javi Puado.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia; El Hilali, Sergi Gomez, Kumbulla, Brian Olivan; Jorge Gragera, Pol Lozano; Jofre Carreras, Kral, Carlos Romero; Veliz

UNAVAILABLE: Fernando Calero (Injured)

SEVILLA TEAM NEWS: NO SAUL FOR SEVILLA

Former Chelsea midfielder Saul Niguez, on loan from Atletico Madrid, remains unavailable for Sevilla this weekend as he deals with a thigh injury.

He is the only absentee for the visitors, though, which means fellow midfielder Djibril Sow and Albert Sambi Lokonga, on loan from Arsenal are available for the Andalusians.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Nyland; Jose Angel Carmona, Bade, Marcao, Adria Pedrosa; Agoume, Gudelj; Lukebakio, Gatito Fernandez, Ejuke; Isaac Romero

ESPANYOL VS SEVILLA PREDICTION

It has been a steady start to the season for Espanyol with the home team able to put together some good results in the middle of some hammerings but they are winning enough to mean they currently are clear of the danger zone. They face a Sevilla side, though, that do appear to be a lot more coherent than they have in the recent past, despite their defeat to Barcelona last weekend. A double chance bet in favour of the away team looks the way to go for this one.
