THE LOWDOWN

CADIZ

Cadiz have been perennial strugglers in La Liga and only just avoided the drop on the final day of last season but the Andalusians may well need some more luck to go their way this time around. The home team begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just inside the bottom three and the relegation places.

Sergio remains in charge but is coming under fairly intense scrutiny as they languish down at the bottom end of the table. They have managed to score just 14 goals in 19 matches so far this season and are the lowest scorers in the league, coming into this on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Granada.

VALENCIA

Coached by Ruben Baraja, Valencia are enjoying an impressive season, especially relative to what their pre-season expectations were. They had been expected to spend the majority of this campaign battling against the drop, like they did last season, but they begin the second-half of the season sitting in the top-half of the table.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of ten-man Cartagena in the Copa del Rey in midweek, having to come from behind with a winning goal from Jose Luis Gaya in extra time. That victory means they are now unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

CADIZ

Cadiz are without two key forwards for this weekend as Ruben Sobrino is out suspended, whilst Roger Marti is injured. Both Brian Ocampo and Gonzalo Escalante are doubts, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Ledesma; Carcelen, Hernandez, Fali, Pires; Machis, Alex, Ruben Alcaraz, Kouame; Ramos, Gomez

UNAVAILABLE: Sobrino (Suspended), Marti (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ocampo (Injured), Mari (Injured), Escalante (Injured)

VALENCIA

Valencia are without Selim Amallah and Mouctar Diakhaby due to AFCON involvement, whilst Thiago Correia will be missing for this weekend with a virus.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Mosquera, Gabriel, Gaya; Perez, Guillamon, Pepelu, Canos; Duro, Yaremchuk

UNAVAILABLE: Amallah (International duty), Diakhaby (International duty), Correia (Illness), Almeida (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Pepelu (Injured), Gonzalez (Illness)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides narrowly escaped the drop on the final day last season and were always tipped up so struggle throughout this campaign but, instead, they are heading in different directions. Cadiz actually began with a defeat of Deportivo Alaves on the opening day but have been extremely poor ever since. Valencia are genuinely in the hunt for a top seven finish and they will be expected to grind out a victory down in the south of Spain.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – VALENCIA TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
