THE LOWDOWN

BARCELONA

It has already been announced that Xavi will be departing Barcelona at the end of this season after a really underwhelming defence of their La Liga title. The Catalans have a five-point lead over fifth placed Athletic and ensuring they finish in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League is the best they can hope for domestically this season.

The Blaugrana come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples in midweek in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. Barcelona took a 60th minute lead through Robert Lewandowski in that game before Victor Osimhen equalised for Napoli about 15 minutes later.

GETAFE

In his second stint in charge of the club, Jose Bordalas is once again attempting to over achieve with Getafe to try and earn a top seven finish and potential European qualification as a result. The capital city club begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table and just a few points behind Real Betis in seventh.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Villarreal in their most recent outing, last weekend, at El Madrigal. Alberto Moreno cancelled out Nemanja Maksimovic’s opening goal for Getafe in that game. That means they have suffered just one defeat in their last five matches in La Liga and that came against champions-elect Real Madrid earlier this month.

THE TEAM NEWS

BARCELONA

Barcelona have several injury concerns for this weekend’s visit of Getafe as the likes of Ferran Torres, Alex Balde and Marcos Alonso are unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): ter Stegen; Kounde, Araujo, Cubarsi, Cancelo; De Jong, Christensen, Pedri; Yamal, Lewandowski, Vitor Roque

UNAVAILABLE: Torres (Injured), Balde (Injured), Alonso (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

GETAFE

Both Jordi Martin and Fabricio Angileri are doubts for this weekend, whilst Uruguayan midfielder Mauro Arambarri are unavailable due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Soria; Iglesias, Djene, Alderete, Rico; Greenwood, Maksimovic, Milla, Martin; Mayoral, Mata

UNAVAILABLE: Arambarri (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Martin (Injured), Angileri (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

As was the case last weekend, Barcelona have been extremely unconvincing throughout this season. They needed a 97th minute penalty from Robert Lewandowski to defeat a struggling, relegation-threatened Celta side at Balaidos last weekend. Barca now face a Getafe side that are tough, resilient, aggressive and difficult to beat – not a side you want to be facing when you are feeling a bit fragile. The brave and genuinely good value bet is to get against Barcelona on Saturday.
