THE LOWDOWN

ATLETICO MADRID

It has been a generally impressive season for Atletico Madrid in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League and they still do have a game in hand but Los Rojiblancos now look in more of a battle to ensure a top four spot rather than challenging the likes of Girona, Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Spanish title.

Atletico come into this one on the back of suffering a 2-0 defeat to an impressive Athletic Club side at San Mames on Saturday afternoon. That was their second defeat in three La Liga matches after being beaten by Barcelona in Catalonia earlier on this month. Those losses sandwiched an unconvincing 2-1 defeat of rock-bottom Almeria.

GETAFE

Following his return in the spring of 2023, Jose Bordalas has helped to massively improve Getafe with the Madrid-based club becoming a lot more difficult to beat and back to their aggressive, almost hostile approach that saw them once reach the UEFA Europa League knockout stages with Bordalas.

The visitors come into this one on the back of an impressive 3-0 hammering of a terribly out of form Getafe side in their mist recent outing, at the weekend. That victory means Getafe have suffered just one defeat in their last 13 matches across all competitions as they push for a potential top seven finish and European qualification.

THE PREDICTION

Atletico have been genuinely good this season but they are stumbling towards the end of the year and will be aiming to simply remain intact as they take on Getafe on Tuesday before facing Sevilla in their game in hand at the weekend. They have to welcome a Getafe side in good form and once again embracing the Bordalas spirit that is akin to the Simeone ‘Cholismo’ style of old at Atletico. Atletico, as they limp towards the turn of the year, remain favourites for what will be more of a fight than anything fluent or fun.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
