THE LOWDOWN
ALMERIA
Rubi, who is Almeria’s third manager of the campaign, has most definitely improved performances and even results with Almeria but, quite astonishingly, they remain winless in 25 games so far this season with eight draws and 17 defeats and may well have missed the best opportunity they will have to win at all.
The Andalusians come into this one on the back of leading Granada, who are second-bottom, for 66 minutes before conceding a 75th minute equaliser to share a 1-1 draw. They gave up a three-goal lead against their regional rivals earlier on in the campaign. They have put in strong showings against the likes of Barcelona, Athletic Club, Girona and Real Madrid in the last couple of months without winning.
ATLETICO MADRID
It has been an awkward couple of months for Atletico Madrid as their form remains inconsistent and underwhelming. Los Rojiblancos have lost in the semi-finals of the Supercopa de Espana against Real Madrid, are behind in their Copa del Rey semi-final against Athletic with the second-leg coming this week and their place in the top four is being challenged.
Diego Simeone’s side also come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Internazionale at San Siro in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie in midweek. Inter were by far the better side in that match but the Nerazzurri could only force one ball over the line via former West Ham United and Stoke City forward, Marko Arnautovic.
THE TEAM NEWS
ALMERIA
Cesar Montes is unavailable for Almeria this weekend, whilst the likes of Iddrisu Baba, Ibrahima Kone and Luis Suarez are all doubts.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Edgar Gonzalez, Radovanovic, Langa; Baba, Robertone; Arribas, Viera, Embarba; Lozano
UNAVAILABLE: Montes (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Baba (Injured), Suarez (Injured), Kone (Injured)
ATLETICO MADRID
Atletico Madrid have several key injury issues for this weekend as key man Antoine Griezmann remains unavailable alongside the likes of Thomas Lemar and Cesar Azpilicueta.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Oblak; Witsel, Gimenez, Hermoso; Molina, De Paul, Koke, Saul, Lino; Llorente, Morata
UNAVAILABLE: Griezmann (Injured), Azpilicueta (Injured), Lemar (Injured), Vitolo (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Gimenez (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, quite astonishingly, Almeria are still winless and they are also on course to break the record the lowest points tally in the Premier League. The Andalusians have conceded 52 goals in their 25 games thus far. Atletico Madrid have been underwhelming and inconsistent of late but did get a confidence boosting 5-0 win over Las Palmas victory last weekend and another fairly comfortable Atletico win would be the thing to back for this one.
TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN
