ALAVES PREVIEW: AVOIDING A BATTLE

Following their promotion at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, success for Deportivo Alaves would have been simply surviving last season but the Basque club did more than that and even managed to propel themselves into the top-half of the campaign by the end of the season, despite the pressure being on Luis Garcia Plaza.

There were suggestions mid-way through the campaign that he was ripe for the chop, despite seemingly doing a good job. That is why starting the season with a loss will be a concern for the experienced manager. They went down by two goals to one at Balaidos in Galicia against Celta Vigo on the opening weekend.

REAL BETIS PREVIEW: THE OLD BOYS OF BETIS

Under the management of former Malaga, Manchester City, Real Madrid and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis have created a very Manuel Pellegrini-like squad with a lot of experience and well known faces that have been added to by a similar summer transfer window.

The likes of Adrian, Diego Llorente and Ricardo Rodriguez have moved to the Andalusians to complement players such as Pablo Fornals, Isco and Nabil Fekir. Their season began with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Girona at the Benito Villamarin in which they will believe they were the better side for much of the game.

ALAVES TEAM NEWS: UNCHANGED ALAVES

Luis Garcia Plaza will welcome Real Betis to the Mendizarrozza this weekend with a fully fit and available squad so he will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

There have been some key sales as well as players like Giuliano Simeone and Samu Omorodion returning at the end of their loan deals so they are desperately trying to find a new formula.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Antonio Sivera; Carlos Vicente, Abqar, Tenaglia, Diarra; Ander Guevera, Antonio Blanco; Luka Romero, Jon Guridi, Conechny; Kike

REAL BETIS TEAM NEWS: HOPE FOR ISCO

After an excellent end to the season, Isco suffered an injury which saw him definitely ruled out of a potential shock call-up to Spain’s UEFA EURO 2024 squad and the former Real Madrid man is edging towards a return.

Other than doubts over Isco, January signing Cedric Bakambu is Manuel Pellegrini’s only other injury concern at the moment after a tough time since arriving in Seville.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Silva; Sabaly, Marc Bartra, Diego Llorente, Perraud; Carvalho, Marc Roca; Pablo Fornals, Fekir, Juanmi; Aitor Ruibal

UNAVAILABLE: Bakambu (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Isco (Injured)

ALAVES VS REAL BETIS PREDICTION

Luis Garcia Plaza tended to take advantage of the vociferous atmosphere in the Basque Country with fairly limited players benefitting from a rigid and well controlled style of football. Given that, as well as the fact that Real Betis appear limited in attack with the sale of Ayoze Perez and injuries to Bakambu and Isco, as well as their wastefulness against Girona last week, a low-scoring encounter seems quite likely for this one.

ALAVES VS REAL BETIS TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
