THE LOWDOWN

AROUCA

Under the management of Armando Evangelista, who is now in charge at Brazilian Serie A side Goias, Arouca finished in the top six of the Primeira Liga last season and managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. However, they were knocked out in the third qualifying round of that competition by Norwegian Eliteserien side Brann the other day.

The visitors for this one come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to Casa Pia as they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table after their opening five matches. They had won one and drawn three of their opening four matches before their unbeaten start to the campaign was ended in a fairly flat and deflating defeat last weekend.

FAMALICAO

Under the management of Joao Pedro Sousa, Famalicao have one of the better and more productive ways of running their club than most in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. They play a more front foot style of football and try to sign young players in order to bring through a good generation or simply to turn a comfortable profit.

After a mid-table finish last season, they will anticipate pushing towards the top five and the UEFA Europa Conference League spots this time around. They come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Rio Ave in their most recent outing, last weekend. The home team have suffered just one defeat in their opening five matches so far this season.

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that will be pushing towards the top five and the European qualification spots this weekend. Arouca managed to break into the top six last season, whilst Famalicao have continued to grow as a side, both on and off the pitch, as they try and take Arouca’s spot. It could be quite an entertaining encounter on Friday evening with both teams sensing an opportunity. Both teams scoring looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
