VENEZIA PREVIEW: OFF THE MARK

Last season, Venezia enjoyed an extremely impressive season and managed to push themselves into the top-flight via the Serie B playoff playing one of the more enterprising and entertaining styles of football as the top scorers in the division but they did also concede 46 goals in their 38 matches.

That style of football is expected to be continued in a gung-ho manner even after the departure of Vanoli with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco coming in. That said, though, the Venetians, after losing 3-1 to Lazio on the opening day of the campaign, followed that up with a goalless draw against Fiorentina at the weekend.

TORINO PREVIEW: ENTERTAINING TORINO

Former Hellas Verona boss Ivan Juric implemented a possession-dominant style of football but they kept failing to be effective in attack and their tight defence also made them one of the dullest sides to watch in Serie A. Vanoli’s task is to kick on with that and also maintain a solidity that keeps them in contention for the European spots.

The Turin-based club began their campaign with an entertaining 2-2 draw at San Siro against AC Milan but they will be frustrated with them being 2-0 up until deep into the game when Milan produced a late comeback. They followed that up, though, with a very impressive 2-1 defeat of a strong Atalanta side last weekend.

VENEZIA TEAM NEWS: FINDING A FORMULA

Venezia still have a couple of issues for this weekend as Eusebio Di Francesco tries to find an effective formula for the home team to push away from the bottom three and the relegation places this season.

Finland international striker Joel Pohjanpalo remains unavailable for this weekend with Gio Busio also a doubt after playing for USMNT at the Olympics in Paris.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Joronen; Altare, Idzes, Sverko; Candela, Duncan, Andersen, Zampano; Oristanio, Ellertsson; Gytkjaer

UNAVAILABLE: Pohjanpalo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Busio (Injured)

TORINO TEAM NEWS: THE ADAMS EFFECT

Former Southampton striker Che Adams made his first competitive start for Torino last weekend and the Scotland international was their match-winner in the second-half, forming a partnership alongside Duvan Zapata up-front.

Netherlands international defender Perr Schuurs remains unavailable, whilst Nikola Vlasic is easing his way back to fitness after missing UEFA EURO 2024 with Croatia.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Tameze, Saul Coco, Masina; Vojvoda, Ricci, Linetty, Ilic, Lazaro; Adams, Duvan Zapata

UNAVAILABLE: Schuurs (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gineitis (Injured), Vlasic (Injured)

VENEZIA VS TORINO PREDICTION

Venezia are expected to play quite a front foot style of football under Di Francesco, as was the case with the former Roma boss as he relegated Frosinone last season on the final day of the campaign. Torino are looking to be a little more efficient with more effective ‘automatisms’ in attack with Vanoli a disciple of Antonio Conte’s work. Venezia do appear to lack quality and Torino being ruthless could prove to be the difference.

VENEZIA VS TORINO TIP: TORINO TO WIN
