THE LOWDOWN

TORINO

Ivan Juric’s style of football tends to be easy on the eye but lacking in effectiveness in attack. That has, once again, been the case with Torino this season as the Piedmont-based club have managed to score just ten goals in their opening 13 matches of the campaign with only three teams managing fewer than that so far this season.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-0 loss away to high-flying Bologna in their most recent outing, last week. That made it just two victories in their last ten matches across all competitions. Their only wins have come against Sassuolo, in 14th, 15th placed Genoa, bottom-of-the-table Salernitana and Lecce, who are 13th.

ATALANTA

Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Sporting CP in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League in midweek. The latest incarnation of Gasperini’s Bergamasci has been generally underwhelming as there is a lack of fluency, particularly in attack, which contrasts to a few years ago.

In Serie A so far this season, Atalanta have notched 21 in 13 games; which is reasonable. However, they haven’t scored more than a goal in a game in five matches across all competitions. That lack of attacking form has contributed to a run whereby they have managed just three wins, against Empoli, Genoa and Sturm Graz, in their last nine matches.

THE PREDICTION

Monday evening’s clash in Serie A features two sides with managers who have a reputation for attacking and progressive football but both are lacking fluency and effectiveness in the final third this season. That said, the processes in place remain the same and there will be a belief that a rhythm will be found as they continue to put together cohesive patterns of play. Given that, it may be a low-scoring encounter in Turin but value could be found in a both teams to score bet.

BETTING TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
