THE LOWDOWN

NAPOLI

For the third time ever and the first time outside of the Diego Maradona era, Napoli won Serie A last season under the management of Luciano Spalletti. Spalletti has since departed, as well as defender Kim Min-jae, but the likes of Piotr Zielinski, Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have remained, despite being linked with moves away this summer.

The Neapolitans, now coached by former Marseille and Roma boss Rudi Garcia, have started the defence of their title in impressive fashion with back-to-back victories. Firstly they went away to newly-promoted Frosinone and won by three goals to one before a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Sassuolo last weekend with Victor Osimhen starting with three goals in those opening two matches.

LAZIO

Despite a generally impressive reign in charge of Lazio, especially last season when they finished second in Serie A and earned UEFA Champions League qualification, things have gone wrong for the visitors this season. Maurizio Sarri has been consistently complaining about his squad this summer with the loss of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The capital city club have started the season reflecting the mood of how their summer went. Their opening encounter was a surprise 2-1 defeat away to a Lecce side that are transitioning after losing g their manager Marco Baroni over the summer. That was followed up by suffering a 2-1 defeat at Stadio Olimpico at home to newly-promoted Genoa.

THE TEAM NEWS

NAPOLI

Rudi Garcia’s Napoli have started in excellent form and they have a fully fit and available squad so should name an unchanged eleven for this upcoming weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan, Olivera; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Osimhen, Raspadori

LAZIO

Maurizio Sarri is under pressure and as he seeks to find some sort of winning formula, he may well be tempted to make some changes for this trip to the reigning champions.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Casale, Romagnoli, Marusic; Kamada, Cataldi, Alberto; Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

This is a battle between last season’s first-placed side and second-placed side. They may be ever so slightly weaker on paper but on the pitch one team has maintained a similarly strong level, whilst the other has seemingly collapsed in on themselves. This should be a game whereby both view themselves as fairly even and they can go at each other at the San Paolo but, instead, it is more a question of by how many will Napoli defeat Lazio by this weekend.

TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN -1 HANDICAP
