THE LOWDOWN

MONZA

Monza are an extremely ambitious club and will be aiming to finish in the top seven and earn UEFA Europa Conference League qualification sooner rather than later, despite having only gained promotion to the top-flight as recently in 2022. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table.

They come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Udinese in their most recent outing in Friuli, last weekend. That means they have continued a fairly low-scoring season as they look set to steadily remain in mid-table. They have scored just 21 goals in 23 games this season with only the bottom two, Empoli and Salernitana, having managed fewer than that.

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona narrowly escaped relegation last season by winning the end of season playoff against Spezia. They began this season with back-to-back victories for just the second time ever – the only other time they have ever done that they went and won the league title. That won’t be happening this time around, though, as hover just above the bottom three and the relegation places.

Coached by former Lecce boss Marco Baroni, Verona have won just two of their subsequent 21 matches sine beginning with two victories and they are very much in danger of the drop. They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Napoli in a game in which they took a 72nd minute lead but eventually lost to an 87th minute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia winning goal.

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that will have underperformed their pre-season expectations ever so slightly and yet will be relatively content with where they lie in the Serie A table. Monza will be eyeing up that top-half spot whilst Verona aim to ease themselves away from the bottom three. They have combined for just 42 goals so far this season so, regardless of who comes out on top, a low-scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals is to be expected.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
