THE LOWDOWN
LAZIO
It has been a difficult summer for Lazio with Maurizio Sarri complaining quite a bit about Lazio’s poor transfer window in which they sold Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal. After being runners’ up last season, they are expected to fall away this year and it has been a very poor start to the campaign across all competitions for the home team.
La Aquile come into this on the back of goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scoring a 94th minute equaliser at home to Atletico Madrid in the opening match of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. They have managed just one win in their opening five matches so far this season and that came away to reigning champions Napoli.
MONZA
The death of Silvio Berlusconi will have affected Monza given that the former Italian Prime Minster and AC Milan owner was heavily involved in the running of the club. They gained promotion to the top-flight for the first time ever in 2022 and with heavy investment will have ambitions of pushing into the top-half at some stage this season.
The visitors come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Lecce in their most recent outing, last weekend. Monza have started this season with one win, a draw and two defeats in their opening four matches as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the Serie A table.

MONZA
Monza have a couple of defensive issues with two unavailable players. Luca Caldirola will miss this game due to suspension, whilst Danilo D’Ambrosio is out injured.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Sorrentino; Izzo, Mari, Bettella; Birindelli, Pessina, Gagliardini, Ciurria; Colpani, Caprari; Colombo
UNAVAILABLE: Caldirola (Suspended), D’Ambrosio (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
Given the way in which Lazio have started this season, this one is quite an unpredictable encounter at Stadio Olimpico. Lazio have managed just one Serie A win and Sarri has been outspoken in his current dissatisfaction. Monza haven’t set the world alight but they will expect to be able to go down south to the capital and cause a fairly disorganised Lazio defence a few problems. Lazio remain favourites with home advantage but both teams scoring looks a good bet for this one.
