LAZIO PREVIEW: PUSH OF BARONI

Marco Baroni pulled off a miracle in the first-half of this season with Hellas Verona and he, as a result, was given a job at one of the biggest clubs in Italy with his appointment at the Stadio Olimpico at Lazio. The capital city club have been steady at the start of this season but did suffer a frustrating defeat last weekend.

They went to Turin and were arguably the better side against Juventus but eventually fell to a narrow 1-0 loss with an 85th minute Mario Gila own goal. They did recover from that in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League in midweek as they defeated Twente by two goals to nil in the Netherlands with goals from Gustav Isaksen and Pedro.

GENOA PREVIEW: GENOVESE IN CHOPPY WATERS

Genoa, coached by 2006 FIFA World Cup winning striker Alberto Gilardino, started the season brightly with a 2-2 draw against defending champions Internazionale before then defeating Monza in their second match away from home. However, they have badly struggled ever since then with on and off field issues.

Gilardino remains in charge of a Genoa side that had their winless run of form in all competitions extended to seven matches with a frustrating 2-2 draw against Bologna last weekend. They also have issues with 777 Partners, who are their controversial owners in major difficulties off the pitch financially.

LAZIO TEAM NEWS: NO ROMAGNOLI

In that aforementioned defeat in Turin last weekend, former AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli was sent off and he is now suspended for this one with Manuel Lazzari also sidelined for the hosts due to an injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Patric, Tavares; Guendouzi, Rovella; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Valentin Castellanos

UNAVAILABLE: Romagnoli (Suspended), Lazzari (Injured)

GENOA TEAM NEWS: SEVERAL ABSENTEES

Genoa are dealing with several injury issues for this weekend’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico. Junior Messias remains sidelined with a thigh injury alongside other key players such as former Olympique de Marseille duo Ruslan Malinovskiy and Vitinha.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Leali; Marcandalli, Johan Vasquez, Matturro; Sabelli, Melegoni, Frendrup, Miretti, Caricol; Thorsby; Pinamonti

UNAVAILABLE: Gollini (Injured), Bani (Injured), De Winter (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured), Ekuban (Injured), Vitinha (Injured)

LAZIO VS GENOA PREDICTION

Lazio have not quite been as fluent as they will hope to eventually be under Marco Baroni but major signs of improvement are there. The Romans have started to gel and their narrow defeat to Juventus was unfortunate last weekend. Genoa lack goals with injuries to key attackers and the departures of Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui over the summer. Lazio are favourites and the lack of Genovese scoring options means a clean sheet would also be a good bet boost.

LAZIO VS GENOA TIP: LAZIO TO WIN TO NIL
