THE LOWDOWN

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona needed an end of season relegation playoff against Spezia to stave off the drop last season. They finished below Spezia on points but won the playoff against them after Serie A changed regulations at the start of the season. They managed to go and snatch Lecce boss Marco Baroni over the summer and started this year very well.

They began with a 1-0 victory away to Empoli on the opening day of the season before following that up with an impressive 2-1 defeat of Roma in their second match. Since those wins, though, Verona have managed to score just two goals and collect just two points in six matches as they languish down in the bottom-half of the table.

NAPOLI

After winning their third ever Scudetto last season and the first outside of the Diego Maradona era, Napoli have struggled in the defence of that title. They lost defender Kim Min-jae to Barcelona as well as their manager, Luciano Spalletti. The controversial and risky appointment of Rudi Garcia has not worked and president Aurelio D’Laurentis is already openly talking of his possible dismissal.

The Neapolitans come into this on the back of a 3-1 hammering at the hands of Fiorentina in their most recent outing at home a couple of weeks ago. They have won just three of their last eight matches across all competitions and those three defeats have come against struggling sides Lecce and Udinese, as well as Braga in the UEFA Champions League.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:

NAPOLI

Napoli’s key man, Victor Osimhen, will be missing for this weekend’s trip to Verona due to injury, as well as the likes of Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Juan Jesus.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Ostigard, Natan, Olivera; Elmas, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia

UNAVAILABLE: Osimhen (Injured), Anguissa (Injured), Juan Jesus (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

For different reasons, it has been an underwhelming start to the campaign for these two sides. After such an impressive beginning with back-to-back victories, Verona have since returned to being one of the weakest sides in Italy’s top-flight. Napoli and Rudi Garcia’s future is uncertain but even with plenty of poor defeats and performances, they have remained capable and competent against the weaker sides so a fairly comfortable Napoli victory would actually represent good value.

TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN
