THE LOWDOWN

HELLAS VERONA

Marco Baroni led Lecce to comfortable survival last season before taking the Hellas Verona job in the summer and they began with back-to-back victories – the last time they did that they went and won the Italian title. However, ten games later, they have not managed their third victory of the season and sit in the bottom three and the relegation places.

Baroni remains in the dugout at the Bentegodi but he is under pressure as his former club comes to town. The home team come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Genoa a couple of weeks ago, which was their sixth successive defeat across all competitions – conceding 12 goals in that time.

LECCE

As mentioned, Lecce lost Marco Baroni but he was replaced by Roberto D’Aversa and the Pugliese also began the campaign quite well. The visitors now sit in the bottom-half of the table and come into this on the back of their own relatively long winless run of form. Their last outing saw them share a 2-2 draw with an out of form AC Milan.

That draw with the Rossoneri followed on from a 2-1 defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and they are now winless in their last eight matches across all competitions. The visitors have been one of the more entertaining teams to watch in the bottom-half of Serie A, though, with 29 goals coming in their 12 matches so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:

LECCE

Lecce have a few key absentees for this weekend’s trip to Verona with forward Pontus Almqvist out injured and Yasir Ramadani also unavailable due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Dorgu; Kaba, Oudin, Rafia; Strefezza, Krstovic, Banda

UNAVAILABLE: Ramadani (Suspended), Almqvist (Injured), Corfitzen (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Lecce have been more entertaining than most in the bottom-half of Italy’s top-flight, that is because the lack of entertainment in games across Serie A has been rife. They have still managed to score just over a goal per game and now head to the team most out of form in the division who have notched just eight times. Lecce will be the favourites for this one but even if they come out on top, it is unlikely to be overly enjoyable to watch for the neutral.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LECCE TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
